About Gannet View
A gannet looks down and sees the fish. From a boat you cannot, so Gannet View reads the water for you and shows its working.
What it is
Gannet View is a web map of the ocean. It draws sea surface temperature, ocean currents, eddies, chlorophyll, water clarity and the seabed from public satellite and model data, for any coast. Every layer states its source, grid size and date, and says when it is a forecast or an estimate.
What it is not
It does not tell you where fish are, and it is not a navigation chart. Use it to understand conditions, and use your own judgement and proper charts on the water.
How we work
- We use the finest data that genuinely exists and never draw detail the source does not have.
- Every layer shows how fresh it is, and estimates always look like estimates.
- We build on free, open ocean data and credit it: Data sources.
Who runs it
