What the map does today, in plain words.
On your device
Your units, saved spots and chosen layers are stored in your own browser. They are not sent to us. If you save an offline area, its map data is stored on your device and cleared after 30 days.
Your location
If you press the location button, your browser asks permission before sharing your position with the map. Your position is used on your device to show where you are and to measure distance and bearing.
Third parties
Loading the map requests map imagery and ocean data from the providers listed on the data sources list, which means their servers see your device’s network address, as with any web page.
Accounts
There are no accounts today. If sign-in is added we will say what is stored before it is switched on.
This is a description of how the site works now, not a full legal privacy policy. The full policy, the responsible contact and any analytics statement still need to be completed by the business before launch.
